Overview

The Medical Care for Children Partnership (MCCP) is dedicated to providing comprehensive medical and dental care to the children of Fairfax County’s "working poor" — those who are ineligible for Medicaid yet cannot afford private health insurance.

  • The cost of living in Fairfax County is rising. A 2005 study reported in the Washington Post states that a single parent with an infant and preschooler in Fairfax County needs to earn nearly $68,000 per year to meet basic needs. A family of three served by MCCP makes less than $40,225. With every penny of their paychecks going toward basic necessities, health insurance, if available, is out of reach for these families.
  • For just $325, MCCP can provide medical care for one child for one year. This is a fraction of what equivalent care would cost the child’s family without health insurance.
  • The MCCP currently serves approximately 4,000 children.
  • Support from the medical community includes more than 500 physicians, specialists, and dentists; one HMO--Kaiser Permanente; seven pharmacies; four medical labs; and one acute care center.
  • MCCP provides comprehensive health care to children. Through our network of physicians and health maintenance organizations, we are able to obtain health care services at a reduced rate.
  • The MCCP, administered by the Fairfax County Office of Partnerships, was established in 1986 with an initial enrollment of 35 children.
  • The MCCP Advisory Council, composed of representatives from business, government, health care organizations, non-profit foundations, civic leaders and customers, provides advice and support for the partnership.
  • The MCCP was recently recognized as one of the top 40 charities that serve children in Washington DC by Washingtonian Magazine. MCCP has received eight state and national awards, including the 2002 National Academy of Public Administration High Performance Award and the 1990 Harvard University/Ford Foundation Award for Innovation in State & Local Government. It was featured in the ABC Network special "Breaking the Cycle", published in two books and many newspaper and magazine articles.
