Advisory Committees


Advocacy Committee

Mission:
MCCP's Advocacy Committee works to keep the Advisory Council and its Executive Committee abreast of children's health policy issues in federal, state and local jurisdictions; recommends actions to be taken; and, as necessary, promotes policies, legislation, and/or regulations that are in line with MCCP's goal of providing comprehensive health care to underserved children.

Finance Committee

Mission:
The mission of the Finance Committee is to establish strategies that continue to increase the MCCP restricted fund to provide health care coverage under the MCCP program.

Strategies:
Monitor investment performance and assess reasonableness / balance of investment portfolio in light of prevailing market conditions.

Marketing and Public Relations Committee

Mission:
The mission of the Marketing and Public Relations Committee is to increase support and public enthusiasm for the MCCP through the development and execution of strategies designed to heighten awareness of the program, thereby serving to increase monetary commitments and reinforce fundraising efforts. The Committee will serve as a resource to MCCP staff in the implementation of the following.

Strategies:

  • Develop and maintain continuous relationship with the press; form coalition of news organizations to provide expertise and involvement; coordinate press conferences, coverage of events and announcements.
  • Initiate marketing/advertising campaign utilizing print and broadcast media to include newspapers, magazines, television, radio stations and web sites.
  • Design comprehensive marketing materials to be used in promotion and in business and foundation solicitation efforts, to include: press kits, e-newsletters, and quarterly "Partners" newsletters.
  • Initiate community outreach activities for MCCP exposure by working with civic and service organizations and instituting a speaker's bureau.
  • Work with Media Advisory Committee, whose members represent local print and broadcasting media, to devise strategies to promote awareness of the MCCP and its activities.
  • Develop and maintain MCCP web site.

Membership Committee

Mission:
The mission of the Membership Committee is to recruit new members to ensure continuation of a strong, cohesive Advisory Council rich with diverse, talented members committed to the advancement of MCCP's mission.

Goals:
Recruit individuals with skill sets that fill needs to support other MCCP Committees and encourage new members to become active members in those respective Committees. Coordinate receptions and other special events to attract new members and, at a minimum, increase awareness and promote advocacy and support.

Provider Committee

Mission:
The mission of the Provider Committee is to recruit and retain physicians, dentists, and other providers for the MCCP program. The Committee shall also recognize providers at least once a year either at an event or via correspondence.

Goals:

  • Align the cultural needs of the children to care providers
  • Increase awareness of MCCP program activity
  • Expand provider services

Strategies:

  • Enhance provider directory to reflect cultural competence
  • Recruit providers that reflect the target population
  • Conduct one major dental event
  • Conduct community screening
  • Conduct provider orientations
  • Address transportation issues

Resource Development Committee

Mission:
The mission of the Resource Development Committee is to raise money through targeted Corporate campaigns, special events, mailings, etc. to further the advancement of MCCP. The long-term goal is to complete a $39 million dollar restricted fund goal so MCCP can provide ongoing comprehensive health and dental care for uninsured children of the working poor of Fairfax County. Initiatives may include, but are not limited to:

Speakers Bureau Committee

Mission:
The mission of the Speakers Bureau Committee is to increase community awareness regarding the needs of medically uninsured children, communicate MCCP's efforts addressing the issues, and encourage contributions (monetary, advocacy or volunteer) to help fulfill MCCP's mission and goals.

Strategies:
Identify audiences targeting community and civic organizations to share the MCCP story through presentations and to get their individual and group involvement. Target audiences include:

  • Service clubs,
  • Faith-based community,
  • Professional groups,
  • Chambers of Commerce,
  • Alumni Groups, and
  • Community groups.

Walk of Fame Gala Committee

Mission:
The mission of the Gala Committee is to conceive and stage the annual MCCP gala for the express purpose of honoring past and present contributors to MCCP; raising funds and resources needed to fulfill MCCP's stated objectives; and recruiting new members and advocates to fulfill MCCP's stated mission.

Strategies:
Recruiting / soliciting:

  • Volunteers to participate actively on a Gala subcommittee
  • Contributors of live and silent auction items
  • Sponsors of ads in gala program
  • Corporate or ecumenical sponsorships
  • Celebrities, elected officials, and other VIPs to attend the gala.
